Why The Indian Vote Matters
Category:Demographics,Education,HealthImmigration – This new generation of Indo-Pacific migrants tends to be aspirational and transactional and hence more right-wing in the choices they make concerning private education and private health insurance.
It’s no wonder Australian politicians are starting to obsess about the Indian vote. The Indians are coming, alright. They’re settling in Labor electorates. And the growth in their numbers is huge, by Australian historical standards.
The demographics driving theses trends are pretty straightforward. Due to the 20-year downward slide in Australian fertility rates, successive Commonwealth governments have maintained population growth – and the supply of younger taxpayers – by boosting net overseas migration (NOM) and this has increasingly occurred independently of our formal migration program.
