Last week son Jack and I went on a road trip up to Hervey Bay, to check out some of our Education Geographics<\/a> client schools north of Brisbane.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

With school holidays on, it was mainly a matter of getting the latest look and feel of schools and their accessibility from a roadside view; to help us to improve the online catchment and demographic maps we provide for all EGS client schools.<\/span><\/p>\n

While in Hervey Bay<\/a>, we took a day off with Andrew Chorley of Hervey Bay Fly and Sportfishing<\/a> to chase Queenfish and Tuna in some of the shallow open waters between Hervey Bay harbour and the inner north western tip of K\u2019gari at Rooney Point.<\/span><\/p>\n

We had a ball chasing Queenfish and long-tailed Tuna. I was on one of Andrew\u2019s salt water fly rods with some of my hand-tied salt water flies and popper, and Jack stuck mainly to a conventional heavy duty egg beater reel and rod, with soft plastics, slugs and floating lures.<\/span><\/p>\n

It was a day to be savoured with one of my boys and some very large fish. All but two tuna were caught and released. A big bronze whaler lurking under our boat got one, and, we got the other.<\/span><\/p>\n

After we got home, Jack put together a little memento of the day. We hope you enjoy it. Re travel details, we stayed at the Mantra Hervey Bay, within walking distance of Andrew\u2019s launching ramp. We ate some great meals at the Truly Asia restaurant near our hotel and for lunch and breakfast the next day we were lucky to find The Bakers\u2019 Room caf\u00e9 at Dayman Street, about a ten-minute walk from the Mantra. The breakfast menu and coffee and take away lunches were memorable.<\/span><\/p>\n
