If you stayed with us in that time, you probably saw for yourself what incredible condition our wild browns maintained during one of the driest summers on record. They\u2019re fit, fat and heading into winter in the best shape I\u2019ve ever seen.<\/p>\n<p>And chances are good that they\u2019re going to get even better. According to the Department of Conservation, the top of the South Island is currently experiencing the <a href=\"https:\/\/OwenRiverLodge.us1.list-manage.com\/track\/click?u=9d5c4eea02a73658eb4ec6aaf&amp;id=655812bf29&amp;e=666a0d0a87\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">largest beech mast (seeding) in 40 years<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>If you visited the Lodge after the 2014 masting event, you\u2019ll know what that means: an explosion in the mouse population, migration in search of food, the need to swim across rivers and \u2026 dinner for trout.<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s not guaranteed but the signs are good. <a href=\"https:\/\/OwenRiverLodge.us1.list-manage.com\/track\/click?u=9d5c4eea02a73658eb4ec6aaf&amp;id=92c99fc208&amp;e=666a0d0a87\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Read more about it here.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>If I were a betting man, I\u2019d be booking my tickets now. These include:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>new beds and air conditioners in all guest rooms<\/li>\n<li>improved Wi-Fi access<\/li>\n<li>major extensions to our gardens to increase the range and quantity of our fresh produce and provide cut flowers for the Lodge<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>We\u2019ve also recently purchased a Range Rover Vogue, so if you want to take a day away from fishing for a tour with Kylie, she\u2019ll take you in comfort and style.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Looking ahead<\/strong><br \/>\nThank you to all guests who stayed at Owen River Lodge in 2018-19.
